Upgrading Moodle is a relatively simple process, especially if we use git to download the software in the first place (we did).
1. Put the site into Maintenance Mode 2. Take a backup (tarfile) of the moodledata directory 3. Take a backup (tarfile) of the moodle directory 4. Take a backup of the moodle database (MySQL)
Then, assuming that we use git to load the software:
cd /path/to/moodle git pull
Once that has completed, go to the moodle URL. If your session has timed out, put /login on the end of the URL
Login, and then you will be asked if you want to perform the upgrade. Various checks are done, and the system will be upgraded.
Finally, take the site out of maintenance mode.
